SC - Security Council

In 1945, fifty-one countries gathered in the city of San Francisco for The United Nations Conference on International Organization. These Conferences resulted in the creation of the United Nations Charter to establish an international institution with the purpose of ensuring the pacific settelment of disputes. With the ratification of the Charter by the People's Republic of  China, the French Republic, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the United States of America and a majority of other signatories, the United Nations and the Security Council were officially created.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the five main bodies of the United Nations. It has the main purpose of "maintaning the international peace and security". According to chapter VII of the Charter, the UNSC is empowered to determine the existence and cause of an international threat and to take diplomatic actions in order to solve a conflict without the use of force. However, if the members of the UNSC consider a conflict as a a threat of international security, this committe could authorize a military intervention.

Topic A.  Measures to Prevent Terrorist from Acquiring Weapons of Mass Destruction

The Security Council is concerned by the growing risk of linkages between terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), and in particular by the fact that terrorists may seek to acquire them. All Member States must take and strengthen national measures, as appropriate, to prevent the acquisition of WMDs by terrorists. It is important to stress the fact that acquisition involves either A and B that is why this issue becomes of great concern for the international community and for the Council.
In order to maintain international peace and security, and to contribute to global efforts against this regard, immediate action must be taken by this Council in order to avoid the growth of this threat.

Tema B. Risk of Nuclear Proliferation in Middle East

The Security Council is concerned by the threat of the proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NW) in the Middle East. Mostly because of the political instability of some countries in the region, and the dangers this condition represents. It is important to stress the fact that the region is also affected by several rebel and terrorist groups that could show interest in acquiring NWs from countries in the region with a nuclear stockpile. That is why this issue becomes of great concern for the international community and for the Council. In order to maintain international peace and security, and to contribute to global efforts against this regard, immediate action must be taken by this Council in order to avoid the growth of this threat.
